Ever since I was 7 years old, I told everyone that when I grew up I was going to be a chef. I grew up with that idea and never considered a back up plan. I pursued that dream and attended culinary school. Funnily enough, I never had much interest in baking. I wanted to be the chef and owner of a restaurant one day. After graduating and working in restaurants, I was crushed to see that a handful of places weren't sending out fresh, non frozen foods. So, I would go home and start baking, just for fun. Clay’s Bakery opened its doors on October 1, 1990 by Bill and Denise Bones, alongside Denise’s mother Barbara Clark, who retired to Florida in 1997. To this day, the bakery is still owned and operated by the Bones family. The bakery was named in honor of Denise’s father Clayton Earl Clark, III who passed away the year before opening the shop. He was an Sergeant for the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, many of his brothers in blue continue to show their support for Denise and her family by visiting the bakery often.
